Dylan Thomas has qualified the CXC Global Racing/CGR Performance Toyota 86 in eighth position for Round 3 of the Toyota 86 Racing Series at the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint, making strong progress throughout today’s practice and qualifying sessions.

Thomas was 16th-fastest in the opening session after battling a handling imbalance, but a setup chance during the second session improved the car significantly.

“In the first session, there was a lot of oversteer so we made a change for the second session,” Thomas said.

“As soon as I went out, it was clear the change was heading in the right direction so we made a further adjustment during the session, and it made the car a lot better.

“In qualifying, the car was the best it had been all day and the sector times were strong – a tow on the main straight would have helped us improve further, but it’s still good to be back inside the top 10.

“The conditions were tricky to read today, with the strong winds and the changing grip levels, and we’re anticipating more of the same tomorrow.”

Jacob Andrews qualified 23rd after also fighting oversteer throughout the day.

“The track conditions were different to what I experienced in testing, but we made some headway towards the end of the day and hopefully we can make up some positions in the race tomorrow,” Andrews said.

The first Toyota 86 race of the weekend will be held at 2:35 tomorrow afternoon, and shown live on FOX Sports 506.
